The museum will host its first History Happy Hour program on Thursday, July 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will feature flash tours, live music, and activities highlighting the museum’s collection and exhibits. There is no charge to attend.
The subject of the program will be the complex history of alcohol in Mississippi, which had one of the longest spans of prohibition in the country. Through staff-led, interactive flash tours of the museum, visitors will explore the production, consumption, and law enforcement of alcohol in the state.
Complimentary happy hour food will be provided and specialty cocktails will be available for purchase. The Lucky Hand Blues Band will perform music rooted in the blues traditions of the 1950s and early 1960s.
The Museum of Mississippi History, which opened alongside the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in 2017, explores the entire sweep of the state’s history.
